What are Paycheck Protection Program loans?

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) was signed into law by President Trump on March 27, 2020. It aims to provide financial relief to businesses and their employees who’ve been impacted by the coronavirus outbreak.

Under this act, small businesses can apply for ‘Paycheck Protection Program Loans’. These loans are amounts of up to $10 million offered to keep small businesses running.

You can use the financial relief for more than just paychecks. It’s designed to assist with your cash-flow, provided you maintain payroll.

You may be able to use the loan to pay:

    • Payroll (limits apply)
    • Employees benefits and leave
    • Mortgage interest payments
    • Debt refinancing
    • Rent
    • Utilities

Securing one of these loans could help you pay your business-related bills and debts and ultimately help you stay afloat during this time of uncertainty.

What’s counted as a small business?

There are several types of small businesses that are eligible for financial relief, including sole proprietors and independent contractors. The maximum amount of employees a small business can have is 500, with some exceptions.

How does it work?
