Day 1: Break through limiting beliefs

Limiting beliefs can hold you back in your personal and professional lives. Whether it’s conscious or subconscious, when we tell ourselves that we’re not worthy, capable, or important enough to do something, we can create a self-fulfilling prophecy.

What are the stories you tell yourself about your potential? Taking a step back to examine them opens the door to self-discovery. It can be the first step to pursuing your passion and building your ideal life. Once you identify a limiting belief, you can replace it with a healthier, more empowering one.

Grab a pen and paper and join psychologist and holistic health coach, Aleece Behr, as she shares how to identify limiting beliefs so that you can start working through them. Hear examples from her own life and then take on possibly the most fun homework assignment ever. 

Day 2: Use breathwork and visualizations

Breathwork and visualizations are powerful self-healing modalities that engage all your senses. Through this practice, it’s possible to feel calmer, reduce negative thoughts, and create a more optimistic view of the future.

If you’re currently going through a job loss or another stressful life situation, this practice helps you positively focus your energy on what you can control.

Day 3: Learn the art of decatastrophizing

Catastrophic thinking is when you ruminate about irrational, worst-case outcomes. It increases your anxiety and often prevents you from taking action that will help you improve your situation. It happens to all of us –and if you’re going through a hard time, it’s easy to do.

Decatastrophizing is the tool of checking your negative thoughts, identifying if predicted outcomes are realistic, and planning how you will cope with any challenges. It’s a powerful way to calm yourself and remember that it’s unlikely that the worst will happen.

Watch this video with marriage and family therapist, Saadia Ynus, to learn the tool of decatastrophizing. She’ll share a simple but powerful way to calm yourself when you notice you start thinking that terrible outcomes or worst-case scenarios are going to happen.

Day 4: Practice radical acceptance

When we experience high stress due to a job loss or other difficult situations, we can find ourselves fighting the situation’s reality. We can refuse to accept what’s happening and start thinking things like, “Why is this happening to me?” or “This isn’t fair.” 

However, when we react this way, we actually experience more pain. That’s why we suggest you try adding radical acceptance to your self-care practice. Completely accept your current situation – no matter how unpleasant it is. Then, you can focus on what you have the most control over: your reaction. While radical acceptance doesn’t eliminate all pain, it helps you move through it faster.

While it may be uncomfortable to practice this skill at first, it can change your life – especially during a pandemic, when there are high levels of stress. Day 5: Use journaling to focus on a brighter future

Journaling is a powerful way to deal with stress, anxiety, and depression. There’s even data that shows it can lower blood pressure and improve liver functionality. 

Writing about stressful situations in your life helps you to manage them more healthily. It’s an excellent outlet to vent frustration, anger, or sadness. While free journaling can be helpful, it’s also beneficial to do structured exercises like the one you’ll learn in today’s video.

In this video, join wellness coach, Tori Warrent, to learn a 5-step journaling exercise to help you deal with a job loss. By the end of this exercise, you will have worked through feelings about your current situation and will have made a plan to move you towards a better future.
